Thankful for Family Time!

peter football 79

Peter is number 79.

Peter had a game Friday night and his oldest sister, my daughter Candace, her husband David and their six month old daughter Isabel came down.  The state of South Carolina allows home school students to participate in sports and a few other extracurricular activities offered at public schools now and this is Peter’s second and final year playing football.  It was a rainy, chilly night so Sarah and I offered to babysit Isabel and finish getting Candace’s old bedroom back in shape; on and off it has served as a storage and laundry drop-off room but Tony went to the game with Candace and David.  Candace and David brought Peter home and Tony brought everyone’s favorite Chinese for dinner.  The evening was filled with great conversation, food, an excellent movie and entertainment from Isabel.

Sitting up late to chat with Candace was great though we both were dragging the next day.  It was so good not to have plans for Saturday, everyone slept in a bit.  Most of the day was spent lounging around in the family room having a flashbacks watching a few episodes of the PBS program Frontier House.  Candace got a few naps.  I got some chores done.  It was so cool to see my two youngest, Sarah as an Aunt and Peter as an Uncle, loving their niece.  Aside from Tony having to make a quick visit to ER, thank God he returned home without a major issue, we all had a wonderful day together. He made it back just in time to be at the head of our table for dinner or as I said at my grandparents’ house, supper.  Our mealtime was just the way I like it; good food and wonderful conversation.

Spending time together without the rush of someplace to get to was great.  There were no worries about missing an event, peace and serenity were the order of the day.  I relish the sounds of conversations and laughter that made the time together so special.  The giggles from Isabel who only months ago underwent major heart surgery bring smiles to each of us and a thankful heart that God allowed her to still be here with us.  Our God is good all the time.  He has proven His faithfulness to us and His mercies are new every morning.  We cannot thank Him enough for all the simple pleasures we enjoy or the stormy times He brings us through.  As Thanksgiving approaches we are reminded of the biblical principles upon which our nation was founded and the thankful  heart we should have as a result of the great blessings we receive over and over again.     \

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
10 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
11 Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!
12 Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles and the judgments he uttered,
13 O offspring of Israel his servant,
children of Jacob, his chosen ones! 1 Chronicles 16 8-19 ESV
